In a week where the weather wreaked havoc on certain fixtures, our Senior B Team finished their season and the Youths team marched on to the Final of the Clare Cup.

Bridge United Youths – Tulla Youths - Postponed

The stage was set on Monday evening for our Youths team to go out against Tulla and try to clinch the league title at Home. The weather had different ideas though and the match was postponed, leaving the Youths team wait another week to finish this league season off. The Under 12 Girls Blue teams fixture also fell victim to the conditions on the night.

Our Under 12 Girls Red Team travelled to Kilmaley to take on Connolly Celtic and despite the horrendous conditions the game went ahead with Molly Purcell hitting the back of the net for the Bridge in a competitive game.

Bridge United U16 B 0 – St. Pats Under 16 1

Tuesday night saw our under 16B Team host St. Pats at Shannon Road. In tough conditions, the young Bridge men couldn’t result on the night, losing 1 nil.

Our Under 12 boys teams were also in action. Our U12 Red team were at home against Avenue United. An Aleks Gladys hatrick, 2 goals from Dylan Downes & 1 a piece for Conor Gleeson and Killian Slater in a fantastic performance ensured the 3 points were won.

The Under 12 Black team travelled to Ennis to take on Ennis Town. Unfortunately the young men came home empty handed though. Jamie Harmon scoring for The Bridge. David Pearse and Evan Madigan were also in fine form.

Bridge United B 4 – Connolly Celtic 1

The weather on Wednesday evening again claimed some of our underage fixtures with both Under 10 games being called off.

Our B Team did see some action though when they played Connolly Celtic in the 3rd Round of the Clare Cup.

It proved to be a good night for the side as they ran out 4 – 1 winners. An excellent night for all involved but particularly for Jake Dineen who got a hatrick on the night. A call out here for his 3rd on the night, a fantastic team goal that was brilliantly finished from the edge of the box. Ronan Touhy finished off the scoring grabbing the 4th.

Avenue United Youths 0 – Bridge United Youths 8

The only surviving fixture to be played on Thursday night was the Youths Clare Cup Semi Final. This was after the Under 11s & Under 14s Game were called off.

Facing in to their 3rd Semi-final in a month, the youths side were determined to ensure they got the result they wanted and were in scintillating form on the night, running out 8 nil winners.

Scott Kirkland scoring 3, Liam Buckley 2, Eli O Sullivan Murphy 1, Conor Morey 1 & Conor Maxwell 1 rounded up our goal scorers on the night but the whole team were extremely impressive in making sure this side reached the Youths cup final. They will meet Shannon Town in the Final.

Bridge United B 2 – Avenue United A 5

The trend of the week continued on throughout the weekend when the weather claimed 3 more fixtures, the Girls U14 game on Friday evening, the Under 15 League game on Saturday & the Under 17 Cup semi Final all postponed.

Our U13 side did take to the field on Saturday afternoon though to play against Tulla United. A 6 goal thriller made up for the weather and conditions. Aleks Gladys, Oscar Todd & Aidan Moloney all scoring for The Bridge. The match ending all square at 3 all.

Following a late change in venue, our B Team travelled in to Frank Healy Park to take on Avenue A in the Quarter final of the Clare Cup. A daunting task against the runners up in the Premier Division.

Against the odds though, the Bridge men took the lead, a fantastic clearance from Paul Touhy in the Bridge nets founds its way through to Ronan Touhy who expertly lobbed the keeper from 20 yards out to put us 1 nil up. Avenue equalised from a corner. There was more than a hint of handball in the build up to the equaliser though, The Bridge feeling aggrieved to be going in level.

The Premier side showed their class in the opening 20 minutes of the second half. The attacking build up play was excellent from the Ennis side and something our side could not live with and they scored 3 in a golden spell after the break.

Substitute Trevor Kearney scored an excellent volley from a corner to make it 5 -2 after Avenue had grabbed their 5th but the B Team bow out at the Quarter Final stage this season.

This wrapped up the season for our B Team, who can be extremely proud of their efforts. Narrowly pipped to the second division title by a point, promotion secured & a decent cup run behind them.
